Our StoryNuestra historia

The Science of ZooPharmaCognosy: How Animals Self-Medicate in the WildLa ciencia de la ZooFarmaCognosia: cómo los animales se automedican en la naturaleza

The science of ZPC was legitimized in 1987 when Dr. Eloy Rodriguez and his team, including Dr. Norma Pestano, coined the term after studying in the Peruvian Amazon for over 10 years with Cornell University. ZooPharmaCognosy is the study of how non-human animals self-medicate: 'Zoo' meaning animal, 'Pharma' meaning medicine, and 'Cognosy' meaning knowing. Animals seem to have an innate way of knowing which substances to eat to help alleviate or even prevent certain ailments, and that knowledge shapes our formulas.
