Too Hot to Handle!

Too Hot to Handle!

Summertime brings outdoor fun - but also serious risks to your dog’s health and comfort. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog!

Hydration is Key:

Summer heat or indoor heating in winter can dehydrate pets. Refresh water bowls daily and consider adding ice cubes or using a pet-safe water fountain to encourage drinking.

Watch for signs of heat stress:

Excessive panting, drooling, bright red gums, lethargy, rapid heart rate, or even collapse.

Tips to keep your dog safe and cool:

  • Provide fresh water, shade, rest, cooling mats, or frozen treats
  • Walk during early mornings or late evenings to avoid hot pavement
  • Never leave your pet in a parked car - even with the windows cracked
  • Flat-faced breeds like Bulldogs and Pugs are especially at risk - monitor them closely

Don't forget eye protection!
